National Watermelon Day is Friday, August 3rd.

Have you heard? Are you ready? Watermelon is the ultimate summer indulgence. It is! Think about it. Because it’s yummy and filling, although it is mostly water and it can be made into all sorts of delicious things, like ice cream, punch, popsicles or margaritas.

Today I’m going to share a few watermelon ideas I think you should try. And then I think you should invite some friends over and enjoy some laughs and fellowship.

These can be made for adults or everyone.

Cut your watermelon and scoop out the insides. This recipe calls for three cups of cubed watermelon. Puree the watermelon in a blender. Finally, then add a cup of strawberries and blend. Pour into your Popsicle molds and freeze. (To make these adult add a cup of Pinot Grigio or Prosecco)

Watermelon Tap

This one was fun. I found my tap at Bed Bath & Beyond. The kit is right at $15.

To help the watermelon stay stable slice off the very bottom of the melon. Try not to cut into the meat of the melon.

Next cut the top off and scoop out the insides. Just like you would a pumpkin. Above all don’t dig into the bottom too much. Hence, leave a few inches of meat in the bottom.

Therefore, use the corer that came in the kit to cut a hole where you want to insert the tap. The rest of the kit goes together and you are set within fifteen minutes. Therefore, so easy!

The recipe for the watermelon juice is pretty much the same recipe I used in the Fourth of July post if you missed it you could read it here.  1- 2-liter Sprite, one container of frozen lemonade, 4 cups of watermelon juice. That’s it. As a result, it was fun to make, and it was a hit with everyone. (To make this one an adult beverage simply set out a chilled bottle of vodka and let people fix their own)

Carving Watermelons

This one is a lot of fun.

We didn’t have a template we just made it up. Michael did the cutting on the shell because he has much better attention to detail gene than I do. Ha! The turtle’s eyes are dots made with a sharpie. We attached everything using toothpicks. Melon balls and frozen grapes are filling the inside.

Have fun with your food. Its summertime and school will be starting soon. Therefore, you should even have a watermelon carving party and see the imaginations of your friends. But if you do, please share pics with me. I want to see.

Happy National Watermelon Day! Now get to creating.

Be you. Be beautiful. Be imperfect.
