(noun) 1) The quality or state of being conscious or aware of something. 2) A mental state achieved by focusing one’s awareness on the present moment.
Mindfulness is about being aware of the moment. What are the sounds, smells, and textures of our lives? So often we float through our day or our week and never notice the details of our lives.
On Mondays, here at samjerry.com, we will have mindfulness exercises.
This week try to be aware of these things:
- When alone in the car ask yourself, “where do my thoughts go when I’m driving?” Try to pay attention to the crosswalks, traffic lights and when you turn left or right. Is the seat warm? Am I white-knuckling the steering wheel?
- When in conversation notice, “am I listening to what the other person is saying or am I waiting for a break so I can give my opinion?”
- Notice something new in your surroundings; a colleague’s outfit or hairstyle, a piece of furniture or the architecture of your office building.
