About 5 years ago I was introduced to Elsie Larson at abeautifulmess.com. I wasn’t literally introduced. I guess just made aware she was out there. However, the heart felt love and admiration was real. Here was a girl creating things like I do and she was making it her life. AND she is about 20 years younger than me. Alas! Ha When she had the Red Velvet in Springfield, MO I would take field trips to her shop and try on as many vintage hats and dresses as I could. When she closed I was sad for me, but Oh so happy for her brand.
Anyway, I read once about a canvas project that Elsie did. I want to say she did so many canvases in so many days, but now I can’t remember. So…..I turned it into a one year challenge! I know, right? Another challenge? You will get used to it, I promise. 🙂
The premise is simple, I create 1 canvas a month for 12 months. So creative, and a great way to grow an “art” collection. It’s March and I haven’t decided my theme yet. We are going away for a long weekend this month, perhaps I will find inspiration then.
Here is my canvas for January. I had no direction other than I wanted it in the bathroom. The toilet sits in a little alcove room by itself. A black cabinet hangs above the toilet, but the walls are bare.
The circles are 2 fold. First, they resemble bubbles, cute and abstract for an adult bathroom. And second, the circles were created by simply dipping the end of an empty toilet paper roll in the paint and applying it to the canvas. I KNOW!!!!!!
February is cold and bleak to me. I have a hard time embracing the bitter cold.
This month my thoughts kept returning to a simple, single sketched feather. So…..TA DA!! That’s what I did. Simple and beautiful. I am way pleased with the outcome. I am taking it to the salon today to see if it wants to live there.
By the way, yard sales or tag sales are a great way to recycle canvases. Just paint over them and boom! new canvases.
I will update the challenge in a few months and show you what I come up with.
Can you create a canvas a month? Or just a single canvas? I know there is art inside each of us. There is art everywhere!!!! If you do or have post them to my Facebook page, Just Left of Perfect!!!
Be you. Be beautiful. Be imperfect!
